Description | Individual differences specific for children with behavioral difficulties are themselves frequently the subject of special education intervention. The ‘problematic’ behavior is very often the subject of the intervention despite the child’s special need which caused the behavior in the first place. Special education intervention focusing on inclusion should respect social norms as well as individual needs of children. Specific or ‘problematic’ differences should be seen as indicators of special educational needs of the children. Author describes three steps to the informed intervention: identification of ‘problematic’ difference, identification of child’s special educational need, formulation and planning of informed intervention. There are several examples from the field given in the text to illustrate the three steps of the intervention. The examples are based on some of the findings of author’s qualitative research among children from a residential counseling centre. |
