Description The authors review the results of their quantitative research in the field of environmental education and its relationship to health care and they consider the validity of some of the items in the applied research tool. The paper implies that the use of qualitative research methods might have produced results of higher quality for a more precise definition of theory, on which hypotheses are constructed. The authors rethink their own methods, particularly the formulation of variables. The paper shows that a in-depth pilot analysis employing qualitative research methods might reveal unexpected variants of variables, which can be crucial for solving the research question. In this text qualitative and quantitative research methods are not discussed as equal and complementary research methods for the purposes of the above mentioned research, it is rather a discussion about the relevance of the application of some qualitative research methods for the purposes of quantitative research.
