Description | Bats are important and understudied animals in the ecosystems of city parks. A study aimed atpresence and distribution of bats, their foraging habitats and roosts was carried out in three parks, i.e. Smetanovy sady, Čechovy sady and Bezručovy sady in Olomouc in 2008. Spatial and seasonal distribution of bat activity within the parks was examined using ultrasonic bat detectors Bat activity was found to be concentrated around water habitats, with the highest levels of activity occurring in the lactation and postlactation period. During the study, altogether 10 bat species (or species pairs, respectively) and 19 roost trees were found in the parks. Conservation recommendations for bat species and their roosts in city parks are also included in the paper. |
