Description | From the Renaissance Brno come minimally 27 fragments and complete specimens of the stove tiles wit relief decoration inspired by Mediterranean dolphins in Renaissance architectural elements. With only a few exceptions, all of the finds in this collection come from inside the Early Modern period city. The individuals that commissioned the tiled stoves with a dolphin motif were the verified holders of three aristocratic free houses in the royal city of Brno in the 16th century. Archaeological finds from other locations are connected with hereditary houses, i.e. houses with an obligation to pay taxes to the city. The involvement of leading masters from the Italian mason community such as Pietro Gabri and Antonio Paris can be verifiably documented in two or even three building projects. |
