Description | Particular attention is devoted to the introduction of starting points, subject of research, and methodology of the new discipline, software studies. Software studies build on the current media studies research transformation, but they distract from the IT features that allow you to compare it with previous media, rather they focus on these IT qualities that have no precedent in the history of media, and thus so far escaped systematic attention of media studies scholars. Within the software studies the IT are defined primarily as a programmable media working in real time. Software studies have an ambition to become a new field of research based on linking of functional properties of IT knowledge and methods already established by humanities disciplines. However, the software at the same time should be not only the object of the theorists' interest, but also the environment and primary research tool. The initiative for the creation of software studies thus creates conditions for the software research in the cultural and social context as well as for the application software tools in the analysis of cultural production. |
