Description Severely burnt patients are exposed to a renge of potentially pathogenic germs everyday. The prevention and treatment of infectious complications during the treatment of thermic trauma represent one of the biggest challenges for all medical teams specialized in burns worldwide. In terms of a development of infectious complications, patients with a severe or critical burn belong to the most endangered group at all. There are only very few multicenter studies dealing with the prevalence of infectious complications. The results of one of the are presented below. 134 severely burnt patients hospitalized in 27 Burn Centrs in 12 European countries were enrikked ti the study. The average age in the group of patients was 40.4 years (SD 22.2), the average extent of burn areas was 30.5% (SD 20.1), the average ABSI was 7.5 (2.54). The average length of hospitalization was 24.3 days (SD 30.6). The most common infectious complication in the patients population was the infection of burnt area. In the observational day, the infection of burnt area was present in a total of 77 patients (57.5%). The most common etiological agents of infection of burnt area were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus
