Description | Pancreatic cancer (i.e. pancreatic adenocarcinoma, PDAC) remains one of the most lethal malignancies, with most cases diagnosed during the late stages after metastatic spread, rendering the carcinoma surgically inoperable. The major biological characteristic of pancreatic adenocarcinomas are early and aggressive local invasion, metastasis and resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. From this point of view, the discovery of miRNA alterations in this malignancy helps not only to improve the understanding of the PDAC biology, but more importantly, provides new diagnostic, prognostic and even therapeutic strategies. |
