Description | Chapter “Innovations and trends in education of journalists” deals with transformations in the journalist profession in relation to journalist education. For example, the Department of Media Studies and Journalism at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University in Brno, shifted its curriculum towards practical, web-based and multimedia journalism between 2009 and 2012. The results exceeded the expectations, as evaluations of students in the new type of compulsory three-month newsroom internships show. The internships were introduced in 2006 and in the last six years, their evaluation by questionnaires for editors-in-chief and anonymous questionnaires for students have confirmed their importance for the students – 70.55 per cent of them were offered further collaboration with the paper already during their internship. Students themselves anonymously evaluated the usefulness of their studies at the department for their practice with an average grade of 1.97 (on a scale where 1 is the highest grade and 5 the lowest). |
