Description | Target: To find, whether there is an association of the family integrity and family environment quality with the injury frequency in children aged five years and younger. Material and methods: The research group was established based on the European Longitudinal Study of Parenthood and Childhood (ELSPAC). For the purpose of the work presented here, we evaluated data from questionnaires assigned to parents concerning periods of mother's pregnancy on the one hand and times of age of the children monitored of 18 months, 3 years and 5 years on the other. Two contrast groups were compared in terms of conditions (material, psychological, social, etc.) existing in the families, where the children lived. The first contrast group (N=315) included children who did not suffer any injury till their age of 5 years and the second group comprised the same number of children (N=315) who experienced a rather high injury frequency within the same age interval: 3–8 injuries. Results: In families exerting features of the harmony, symmetry and complementary nature in relationships between individual adults as well as between adults and children, the risk of injuries in children aged five years and younger is considerably lower compared to families not exerting these characteristics. |
