Description | Aphakic glaucoma is a serious sight-threatening complication in children after congenital cataract extraction without implantation of artificial intraocular lenses. The incidence of pediatric aphakic glaucoma ranges from 15 to 45% and is higher in young children and the eyes that underwent cataract extraction at age younger than 4 weeks. The lower incidence of glaucoma in pseudophakic eyes is likely to influence the selection of children for implantation of intraocular lenses. The solution plays a role in both glaucoma medication and surgical treatment. The base of surgical treatment of pediatric aphakic glaucoma is trabeculectomy with mitomycin C or glaucoma drainage implants. The success of drainage implants in the short term is better in the long term more promising than trabeculectomy. |
