Description | This research-based article looks at young language learners (6-11 years old) and their development of reading in the foreign language.Sometimes children struggle with the mechanics of reading which may discourage them. These struggles can occur when learning to read either in ones mother tongue or in a foreign language. To address this situation, teachers should select authentic texts that children may enjoy such as illustrated children books. The author investigated how shared reading can be used in a primary classroom. With this technique, a teacher models reading strategies while exposing the children to a story that is appropriate for their age level. |
