What if I fail the state exam?
Did you fail the state exam or any part of it? No need to hang your head, you are entitled to one make-up date. In the case of the rigorous examination in the field of medicine, even two (according to Article 22, paragraph 7b of the MU Study and Examination Regulations). You will only have to repeat the part of the examination in which you failed. And beware, you must take the remedial term in the semester immediately following.
Expect that in the meantime the Dean will probably interrupt your studies. If you wish to remain in active studies, you must meet the requirements for enrolment in the following semester. You must notify the Office of Academic Affairs of your intent to enrol immediately after failing the SFE.
Don't give up and learn from your mistakes
Petra Švambergová is a successful graduate of the master's degree in sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, but her path to her diploma required patience and effort. She was able to defend her diploma thesis only at the revised deadline, and she passed her final exam in one subject only on the second attempt.
"I didn't have the slightest problem with the thesis supervisor, but I didn't know how to actually do the thesis. I enjoyed studying sociology and was very involved in the subjects I was studying, and I started thinking about the topic of my thesis late. I set the topic too broadly and lacked the diligence and motivation to delve into the topic," Petra recalls.
And what would she do differently today? "Today I would start working on strategy, plan and literature search as soon as possible. I would definitely set a much narrower topic, sub-goals and agree interim deadlines with the supervisor. Maybe I would also go for a consultation with older students who are in a more advanced stage of 'creating' a thesis’".
