Academic debate is an argumentation contest in which two-member teams try to defend or refute the thesis. The thesis is a controversial claim, such as "University education is useless" and the attitude that teams hold towards it is being drawn. Debaters often defend positions with which they disagree internally. The team, which most effectively defended its position according to the rules of the competition, wins the debate. The decision-maker is responsible for an experienced debater in the role of impartial judges.
