Masaryk University Symphony Orchestra
About us
The Masaryk University Symphony Orchestra – orchestr.muni for short – was established by Martin Mazánek at the Department of Musicology of the Faculty of Arts in 2005, at first as a string orchestra. In 2007, it expanded to a small symphony orchestra and, from 2011, it has functioned as a large symphony orchestra. The players are primarily students of various MU faculties, but also students of Mendel University, Brno University of Technology, University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno, Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno and Brno Conservatory.
The symphony orchestra is unique in that it supplements its more traditional repertoire with new works presented in a Czech or even world premiere. The repertoire includes classical as well as present-day works.
