The investigation of ecological niches of nitrogen-fixing legumes, parasitic plants and their co-occurrence on a large scale

Legumes as well as parasitic plants display specialised strategies of resource acquisition which might be reflected in their ecology and distribution. Our aims are 1. a continental-scale analysis of ecological niches of legumes and parasitic plants in Europe, to find out in which habitat types they occur and what their ecological limits are, and 2. investigating the relationship between the occurrence of specific legume-hemiparasite species pairs to support the mutualism theory.
