Popis | Among the first Italian translations of works of the Czech writer Karel Čapek we can find a translation of his book of fairy-tales called Nine Fairy-tales, from 1938 by Paula Ojetti. The book was re-translated in 1994 by Luisa De Nardis. Each of the translations can be considered an extreme case of two opposing translational strategies: the first one belongs among the so called domesticating translations. The later, on the other hand, is an example of foreignizing translation. The current paper focuses on the category of antroponyms and toponyms where the employment of both strategies is most noticeable in the attempt to determine which of the before-mentioned strategies is more suitable for translation of children's literature, if the current theories of translation emphasize the functional equivalency as the prominent quality of the translation. The quoted examples proved that the foreignizing translation better complies with the rule of functional equivalency. |
