Popis | West Indian author Samuel Selvon employs various literary and linguistic devices in order to find adequate means reflecting his position of the author caught between two cultural traditions. Selvon has to deal with differences of narrative traditions and power relations of the various languages/cultures participating in postcolonial discourse. The technique Selvon uses is a kind of manifestation of cultural evolution, and represents one of the possible reactions to socio-political issues related to the global change. Selvon's particular literary language presents us with a concord of calypsonian elements with the wide continuum of creolized English creating the atmosphere of a new postcolonial community. |
