| Popis | Our research is focused on the preparation of regular arrays of self-assembled surface-mounted dipolar molecular rotors with the objective of demonstrating collective motion. We designed and synthesized a new class of molecular rotors based on triptycene, which are useful for formation of Langmuir films on an aqueous surface. An illustrative rotor contains four viable moieties for such application: a carboxylic acid group, chosen to strongly interact with water subphase, forcing the terminal bond to orient perpendicular to the surface, triptycene benzene rings, stabilizing the monolayer by intermolecular pi-pi interaction between neighbors, a butadiyne linker serving as an axle, and a dipolar rotator with a low rotational barrier. |
