Popis Dynamic changes in the use of multimedia and information and communication technologies (ICT) in language learning of recent years have led to the necessity to ask questions such as: Do we design ICT-enhanced tools and materials that suit the diverse needs of our students? or Do we use multimedia and ICT that improve language learning processes? This paper shares our experience with the successful implementation of ICT-enhanced language learning in the university environment. Masaryk University Language Centre-Centrum jazykového vzdělávání (CJV MU), the leading language learning institution in the country, engages in teaching and research activities which focus on design, development, evaluation and implementation of novel courses, testing and ICT tools in the areas that include CEFR, flexible materials format, authentic situations, creative processes, community-of-practice communication and ICT-enhanced language learning. Outcomes of recent projects (INVITE, COMPACT, IMPACT) indicate that the ICT-enhanced approach can play a fundamental role in improving language learning and in fostering more complex learning environments. Examples of CJV MU courses, activities and tools present multimedia and ICT as an integral part of the language learning process. Questions of balance between individual and collaborative activities, between traditional and ICT-enhanced tasks, and between synchronous and asynchronous communication tools are addressed, and approaches aiming at deeper involvement of university language learners in real academic or expert situations as well as their intensive engagement in an environment where they can test and improve their language, expert and socio-cultural skills are discussed. The aim of this paper is to present practical examples of innovative materials, software and teaching methods and to encourage experience sharing and discussion on effective use of ICT-enhanced language learning in the university setting.
