Popis | Current romantic relationships and past relationships are much more intertwined than the research considers them to be. People generally understand that they’re related, but science has largely ignored that aspect. Present study explores whether persisting emotional bond to former romantic partner affect the quality of current relationship. Participants of longitudinal study Path to adulthood (N=1143; average age=21.46 years; SD=1.55; Min=16; Max=31) reported attachment avoidance and anxiety to their current partner (ECR-RS, Fraley, Heffernan, Vicary, & Brumbaugh, 2011), basic needs satisfaction in current relationship (La Guardia, Ryan, Couchman, & Deci, 2000), and persisting emotional bond to significant ex-partner (Spielmann, MacDonald, & Wilson, 2009). It was found that the small effect of Ex-bond on current relationship quality is mediated by attachment avoidance. The effect seems more pronounced in men which is not a statistically significant difference in our sample (77% women) but it is in line with published previous results. |
