Popis | North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) was used as a simple approximate descriptor of the global weather fluctuation over Europe. Spring start of flowering in 99 plant species recorded in southern Moravia, Czech Republic was correlated with the seasonal winter (DJFM) NAO index during 50 years (1965 to 2014). The flowering occurred significantly earlier following positive winter NAO values in most species appearing in March and April. On the other hand, the timing of most later-flowering (May and June) plant species did not correlate significantly with the seasonal NAO index. The prevailing positive phase of winter/spring NAO conditions observed in Europe at the end of the 20th century obviously determined the trend of an earlier than normal flowering in most spring plants. |
