Popis This is an essay about two novels by Virginia Woolf, one from the beginning of her career and the other from her late period. The essay combines analytical readings of The Voyage Out (1915) and The Years (1937) in a wider context of Woolf's oeuvre, where the attempt to record silence emerges as one of her key projects. The quotes from both works, which I translated from the English to the Bosnian for the sake of this analysis, provide support for the intention the author expressed already in her first novel: ‘I want to write a novel about Silence . . . the things people don’t say. But the difficulty is immense.’ By linking the two novels separated by twenty-two years of exceptionally prolific career through meditations on recording the silence, I emphasise that not only were silence and inarticulateness important initial impulse for Woolf's creative process, but they remained as such until the very end of her life, pushing her times and again to attempt the conquering of the incommunicable territory.
