Popis Diversity of parasitic copepods parasitizing African freshwater fishes is relatively high, where approximately 50 species are recently known. Up to now, more than 90 species of African freshwater fishes sampled in Kenya (Lake Turkana), Sudan (White Nile and Blue Nile River), Senegal (Gambia River), Burundi and Democratic Republic of the Congo (Lake Tanganyika) and Morocco were investigated.Species determination based on morphometric methods revealed 23 different parasitic copepod species classified into 7 genera: Ergasilus (8 species), Lamproglena (7 species), Lamproglenoides (1 species), Lernaea (3 species), Opistholernaea (2 species), Lernaeogiraffa (1 species), Dysphorus (1 species). Molecular identification based on two nuclear markers (18S and 28S) supported morphometric differentiation. In total, 15 different 18S and 17 different 28S rDNA sequences of parasitic copepods were newly identified.
