Popis | A scanning electron microscopical study was undertaken on the surface topography of the gill parasite Octomacrum europaeum Roman et Bychowsky, 1956 (Monogenea: Octomacridae) from Schneider - Alburnoides bipunctatus (Bloch, 1782) (Cyprinidae: Leuciscinae) collected from river Pasleka near Olsztynek, Olsztyn Lake Area, Poland. The study revealed presence of several new unpublished features for this species. These include the presence of irregularly distributed, papilla-like non-ciliated structures on the surface of the body, uniciliated sensory structures mainly around the mouth and the existence of a longitudinal grooves and one depressed sensory pit in head region. Haptor is symmetrical, roughly quadratic in shape, with inconspicuous slight constriction separating it from the body with two rows of the four pairs of pincer-like clamps. A highly developed genital sucker is hidden under conspicuous ventral genital atrium in the first third of body. The samples were examined using a LYRA3 TESCAN SEM at an accelerating voltage of 7 kV, detailed surface structures on the body were observed under higher magnifications by MAIA3 TESCAN SEM at an accelerating voltage of 4 kV. |
