Popis | Cohabitations are typically described as unstable unions. Partnership instability is in general connected with negative consequences for the separating partners and their children. The knowledge about the stability of cohabitations is, however, limited. The exact statistics about the break-up of cohabitation are non-existent so we need to relay on survey-based reports of non-marital unions. The present paper extended the knowledge on cohabitation stability by studying the dissolution rates of cohabitations as well as its relative stability in comparison to marriage across a number of European countries. Additionally, the paper showed how the presence of children relates to the stability of the cohabiting union. |
