Popis | Czech and Slovak public transport systems underwent 25 years of independent evolution since the separation of the Czechoslovak federation in 1993. Urban public transport (UPT) is still organized in a similar way in both countries, although minor differences are emerging. The aim of this paper is to compare performance of Czech and Slovak UPT operators and to identify factors influencing efficiency of individual companies. Two-stage analysis was employed. In the first stage, data envelopment analysis (DEA) was applied to the sample containing data from 19 Czech and 15 Slovak UPT companies over the period 2010-2015. Three inputs (employees, rolling stock and fuel) and two outputs (passengers and revenues) were used. DEA efficiency scores were computed for each year and two different assumptions regarding returns to scale. The impact of operational, socio-economic and geographical variables was explored in the second stage using Tobit regression. Differences between individual countries were tested statistically using nonparametric methods. |
