Popis | Polar microbiology is fast growing field within research on polar regions, that drive increased scientific attention due to their uniqueness, importance in biosphere and unquestionable vulnerability to anthropogenic changes. Microorganisms present in polar regions represent rich source of novel knowledge due to their unique biochemistry, adaptation and evolution. Aim of this study was to describe and classify two groups of pigmented psychrothrophic bacteria isolated from Antarctic environment. These strains (n=20) were described using polyphasic taxonomic approach including genotyping (16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, DNA-DNA hybridization, repetitive PCR), phenotyping (biochemical and physiological tests) and chemotaxonomic analyses (FAME, analyses of polar lipids, polyamines and menaquinones). |
