Popis This edited volume as a whole examines the post-Cold War relationship of ten selected Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries with the United States. The chapter deals with the development of Czech-US relations since 1989 until now. It argues that the Czech–U.S. multi-layered relations have undergone a significant change since the fall of communism in 1989, and the Czech accession to NATO in 1999 and to the EU in 2004. As the analysis demonstrated, both countries enjoy a close relationship that runs across many areas of interest and operates at various levels, resting – broadly speaking – on three main pillars: 1. security and defence; 2. economy; and 3. issues concerning shared values. Even though the relations have been repeatedly accused of losing their content and they are not devoid of certain tensions, setbacks and controversies, the institutional ties between the two countries have never been challenged by either side.
