Popis Despite a growing interest in research on psychotherapy training, there is a lack of longitudinal studies on psychotherapy trainees. This study aimed to explore helpful and hindering events as reported by trainees over a whole training course. A group of N = 26 trainees in an integrative psychotherapy training course was followed over the 5-year training. At the end of each training meeting, trainees answered a modified Helpful Aspects of Therapy form. Twenty-four categories of helpful and 14 categories of hindering events were identified and clustered into 5 thematic areas: trainees’ personal self-awareness, trainees’ professional self-awareness, training group, trainers, and training content. Frequencies of the categories in each year of training were reported. The study provided a more detailed view of the development of trainee experience by employing the significant events paradigm in a longitudinal manner. Furthermore, it revealed the importance of self-exploration and interpersonal aspects beyond the formal content and structure of training.
