The role of Christian Material Culture in the Christianization of the European North

| Popis | The conference paper is focused on the medieval and early modern Christianization processes in the wider area of northern Europe between the British Isles and the Urals, i.e. roughly equivalent in size to the Roman Empire at the time of its greatest expansion. Through the analysis of historical sources it evaluates: 1) the perspective of Pagan natives towards the material culture of Christianity, 2) key factors of the conversion of different North European nations, 3) the ways and circumstances of the act of baptism in these areas. The main aim of the analysis is to consider the role of the material culture of Christianity during its spread in the areas of northern Europe. |
