Popis | Landau and Condon formalisms, which are two formalisms used for modeling the dielectric response of materials exhibiting optical activity, are compared. It is shown that the true equivalence between these two formalisms can be established only for isotropic materials. The arguments presented in this work show that from the physical point of view, Landau formalism is preferable since it allows more general dependence on the wave vector, it is easy to ensure conformity with the sum rules and other requirements, and it could be used to model inhomogeneous waves. |
