Popis | In my paper I am going to introduce the work of Dušan David Pařízek, a Czech theater director, currently resident at Vienna’s Volkstheater and Burgtheater. His work is influenced by growing up and studying in Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Germany. On the Czech scenes, he had created memorable productions of contemporary authors as well as reinterpretations of the traditional canonic works of Czech literature. As the director of Prague’s Divadlo Komedie, he had presented to the Czech audience productions heavily influenced by contemporary trends in European theater, perhaps too avant-garde – as he had problems with filling the auditorium and financing the theater. After failing to succeed with his visions in front of Czech audience, he had moved to German-speaking countries and became perhaps the most well-known Czech director abroad. In the year 2014, he had won the prize of Theater heute for the production of the year (Wolfram Lotz - Lächerliche Finisteris, Burgtheater). In the past few years, Czech audience might have noticed significant influence which Pařízek had on Czech theaters, and many creators are reflecting on his success abroad. In the paper I would like to trace the Czech herritage that Pařízek brings to his foreign works, as well as postulate the reason of him being closer to German-speaking audience. Generally, following Pařízek’s work, we can see the differences between the perceptions of theater by different nationalities. |
