Popis The chapter explores the potential change in power relations wrought by Brexit-related differentiation as the United Kingdom (UK) sought to withdraw from the European UnionEU during the Article 50 negotiations. In particular, it examines and compares two of the UK’s bilateral relationships long defined by acute power asymmetry: Czechia and the Slovak Republic. The analysis demonstrates the renewed importance of bilateralism for the UK’s engagement with European partners as a consequence of Brexit and shows that the UK sought to make its traditional power asymmetry work to secure its interests in the first phase of Brexit negotiations.
