Popis | The issue of gender equality represents one of the most pressing issues of modern society. Although many authors deal with the subject and offer different points of view, "Eugenia" by Eduardo Urzaiz published in 1919 stands out not only for its arguments and perspective of the 23rd century, but also for being considered the first Mexican science fiction novel. The author introduces his ideas about the future society and offers solutions to achieve economic and social equality. Through his projections he mocks the society of his time, ridiculing and criticizing ancestral values and skepticism towards scientific progress. Since the publication date, the Latin American region has gone through several evolutionary stages of society and the role of women, from the elementary vision of mother and housewife towards gender equality and introduction of universal suffrage. The presentation focused on the visions of gender equality proposed by the author at the beginning of the 20th century and compared them with the characteristics of today's society and contemporary values. |
