| Popis | Thyroid status was characterized in very preterm infants (gestational age 23-32 wk) from birth through day 14; in those infants who died within 16 days of delivery it was also correlated with the metabolism of thyroid hormones in peripheral tissues. The results obtained support the view that peripheral tissues of very premature infants are involved in local generation of triiodothyronine (T3) and inactivation of thyroid hormones, but do not represent a major source of circulating T3. |
