| Popis | The aim of the present article is to either prove or disprove the existence of gender-related restrictions on the meaning and use of several idioms in English. In analogy to similarly oriented research on cognitive synonymy, the present paper aims to determine the role of gender in the construction of the meanings of near-synonymous idioms, such as blow one’s top, fly off the handle, and see red. |
