Popis Antarctica - the windiest, coldest, driest and fifth largest continent. It is isolated from civilization not only by the ocean, but also by limited satellite coverage and complicated transport logistics. It is used exclusively for peaceful purposes, scientific cooperation and environmental protection. Nobody has a permanent residence here. But in the summer, roughly 4,000 scientists and technicians head here. The Johan G. Mendel Czech Station is one of the places where the expedition of polar explorers is headed. It has been operating on James Ross Island for 15 years. In the summer season 2021/22, the first more extensive measurement of the psychological, physiological and cognitive functions of 16 people took place here, focusing on monitoring manifestations of stress. What was the polar group like in terms of personality? How did they perceive the stay at the internal and team level? What was their opinion about experiencing stress and isolation during the expedition? How did they cope with them? And how did they reflect the return to wartime Europe? You will learn all this at the lecture: Some people like it cold.
