From Similar Place Avoidance to Sound Symbolism in Slavic Languages

• Popis: Cross-linguistically, languages avoid CVC sequences in which the consonants share the place of articulation (Similar Place Avoidance). Demonstrating that this avoidance pertains to Slavic languages too, we proceed to discuss violations to this principles, many of which are sound-symbolic in origin. We suggest some of these be interpreted as phonaesthemes.
