Popis | The study investigates the effects of post-weaning social isolation (PWSI) on myocardial function in a rat model of pressure-volume overload. Sixteen male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into socially isolated and group-housed cohorts. Following 7 weeks of isolation, pressure-volume overload was induced using unilateral nephrectomy and deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) treatment. Left ventricular function was assessed via pressure-volume catheterization. Socially isolated rats exhibited significantly reduced contractility and impaired relaxation compared to group-housed counterparts. The findings suggest that PWSI-induced behavioural alterations exacerbate cardiac dysfunction, highlighting a potential link between social stressors and cardiovascular health. |
