Popis | The aim of project, on which 8 European countries are participating, is the development and testing of a general method for assessment of ecological status of selected stream types in most ecoregions in Europe using macroinvertebrates. Macroinvertebrate fauna and environmental parameters of near-natural reference streams and of stream sections representing different stages of degradation was collected. By combination of all project participants, acidification, degradation in stream morphology and organic pollution in European running waters were studied. Sampling was designed according to assessed degradation status of streams expressed in 5 categories. The first step of evaluation is comparison of preliminarily assessed status with results of analyses of biotic and abiotic data sets. It provides an overview of parameters related to studied stress and biotic response to various intensity of degradation. In the Czech Republic, mid-sized streams in eastern lower mountainous areas of Central Europe (ecoregion no. 9) and small and mid-sized streams in lower mountainous areas of the Carpathians (ecoregion no. 10) were studied. Organic pollution was investigated as the impact factor. |
