THE SPATIO-TEMPORAL DIVERSITY IN CADDISFLY COMMUNITIES (TRICHOPTERA, INSECTA) OF THE OSLAVA AND CHVOJNICE STREAMS (CZECH REPUBLIC)

| Popis | The composition of the caddisfly communities in three habitats of the Oslava River (riffle, streamline, riparian part) and two habitats of the Chvojnice Brook (riffle, riparian part) (South Moravia, Czech Republic) was studied for one year. Altogether, 41 caddisfly species (32 species in the Oslava and 26 in the Chvojnice) were recorded. Highest density of caddisflies and at the same time highest dominance index and lowest diversity and evenness indices were observed in the riffle community of the Oslava River. This was the consequence of mass occurrence of Cheumatopsyche lepida. Based on the courses of larval and pupal densities (i.e. life cycles) of dominant species, three temporal aspects were defined for both streams. To make differences in community composition between habitats and defined seasonal aspects visible, DCA respectively PCA was used. The most stable community composition was observed in the streamline and riffle of the Oslava River. On the other hand, the composition of the riparian communities of both streams varied markedly during the year due to the unstable environmental conditions. The community composition of successive spring-summer and summer-autumn seasonal aspects differed in all investigated habitats except the riparian zone of the Oslava River. Substantial summer change in the community composition is made by emergence and subsequent oviposition and hatching of the species prevailing in the studied communities. |
