Popis The anticoagulant buffer used to collect hemolymph in Galleria mellonella, enabled the identification of five different hemocyte morphotypes with a viability of >95% and these hemocytes encapsulated Heterorhabditis bacteriophora both in vivo and in vitro. Compared to in vivo and in vitro conditions, the entomopathogenic nematodes were encapsulated at a higher rate only under in vitro conditions. The per cent encapsulation response was altered by the presence or absence of various hemolymph factors namely, plasma, hemocyte lysate supernatant and hemocyte conditioned medium influenced the encapsualtion response of these hemocytes. The molecules present in the hemocyte conditioned medium identified using SDS-PAGE, appear to regulate the cellular encapsulation response.
