Popis | Using the instrumentation of the British Antarctic Survey, Dr. Hajek investigated cold resistance of several lichen symbiotic algae. Trebouxia erici, T. assymentica, T. glomerata were used in the experiment; algae were cultivated in standard growth media and checked regularly by a spectrophotometer. Homogenized samples (2 microliter) were linearly cooled in a rate of 1 deg C/ min from 0 deg C to -20 deg C. During the cooling, ice nucleation was evaluated in the samples and initial temperature of nucleation determined. Based on the results obtained, interspecific differences in the cryoresistance of the studied species were evaluated. |
