Popis | Modifications of 3' end of mRNAs plays important role in gene expression control. There are two groups of poly (A) polymerases (PAPs) present in the cell: canonical nuclear PAP, and non-canonical PAPs, that differ in the role they play in cell metabolism. There are 7 homologues of non-canonical PAPs in Homo sapiens. At the moment, they are rather poorly characterized. Recently, the largest homolog TUT4 (ZCCHC11) has been shown to play a role in gene expression regulation via the uridylation of specific miRNAs. Several other homologs, have also been shown to poses uridylation activity, in some cases along with the polyadenylation activity. |
