Popis | Parasitic nematodes referable to Procamallanus (Procamallanus) laeviconchus (Wedl, 1862) were obtained from stomachs of various African freshwater fishes in Senegal and Kenya. Adults and first-stage larvae of P. laeviconchus were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM). First-stage larvae from females' uteri were studied by SEM for the first time. Their tail tips are provided with several minute digit-like projections. Procamallanus laeviconchus has a wide host spectrum and geographical distribution in Africa. Morphological features found in adults suggest that P. laeviconchus is a complex of at least three morphologically similar species poorly recognizable by LM. |
