Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University announces an open competition for the position:

Associate Professor (Assistant Professor) in Computer Graphics and Computer Games Development

Employment: 3-year initial contract (with possible extension - tenure track)

Workplace: Faculty of Informatics – Department of Visual Computing, Masaryk University, Botanická 68a, Brno

EU Researcher Profile: Researcher 2 - Researcher 3 (preferred)

Salary: CZK 72 400 – 92 600 (Associate Professor) or CZK 60 500 – 80 700 (Assistant Professor). The salary will be negotiated.

Job description key points

The position is focused on both research and teaching. The candidates are expected to carry out research of excellent quality in the area of computer graphics (have publications at leading conferences in the area, such as SIGGRAPH, GRAPP, or Eurographics) and take responsibility for selected courses included in the specializations Computer Graphics and Visualization and Computer Game Development within the Visual Informatics study program. In particular, the candidates should be able to prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials at the bachelor as well as master level in the following areas:

  • computer graphics;
  • computer games development;
  • programming of computer graphics applications.

The candidates should show a large amount of flexibility in teaching subjects that are not directly related to their particular areas of research. They are expected to help with supervising undergraduate as well as graduate students and attract research projects to fund their research activities.

The successful candidate must have

  • PhD work related to computer graphics, virtual reality, or augmented reality and habilitation (“venia docendi” or equivalent) or prerequisites for quick progress to habilitation;
  • passion for problem-solving and a desire for continuous improvement in teaching skills;
  • excellent research background in one of the areas of computer graphics, virtual reality, augmented reality, or computer games development, with sincere interest in the remaining ones as well;
  • flexibility in teaching subjects that are not directly related to candidate´s particular areas of research;
  • experience with research/development project team leadership;
  • experience from other countries than Czech & Slovak Republics (at least half a year) or proof of other extensive international experience (e.g., international project leadership);
  • standard academic proficiency in English (ability to communicate fluently in English in an international academic setting - both oral communication and writing/reading)(other language is an advantage);
  • dynamic, flexible personality, able to work well in interdisciplinary and international teams.

  • copy of diploma from the highest level of education (notarial certification not required);
  • cover letter explaining the candidate's motivation for the position;
  • information on previous university teaching experience (list of taught courses and list of supervised theses);
  • information on scientific activities
    • publications that meet a high standard of quality, such as those with notable impact factors or from reputable conferences, e.g., ranking at least B in the CORE portal;
    • research projects the candidate led or joined, etc.;
  • title and abstract of a lecture that can be presented as a part of the application process;
  • plan for scientific, research and teaching activities and a plan for professional development for the next 3 years;
  • the names and contact details of three professional referees.
