Doctoral degree in full-time or combined form. The language of instruction is English.
The programme can be studied as a single subject or as a single subject with a specialization (Security and Strategic Studies). Tuition fee is €1,500 per academic year.

What will you learn?
The doctoral study program of Political Science with Specialization Security and Strategic Studies is geared toward preparing highly qualified experts in the field of political science and security studies. The program is focused particularly on analysis of contemporary political systems and regimes (in variable analytic levels), comparative analysis and typologies of political parties, movements, and organized interests, electoral studies, research of recent developmental trends in political theory and methodology, and on political marketing. In security area, the program is focused particularly on political extremism and terrorism, organized crime, cyber security and other current security phenomenons.

Practical training
Practical training is not an obligatory part of the study plan. Within the specialization Security and Strategic Studies, students can pass a compulsory elective course, the essence of which is an internship with an employer dealing with security issues.

Career opportunities
Graduates of the doctoral studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences MU acquire qualifications enabling them to apply as (1) researchers carrying out basic political and security research, (2) members of scientific and pedagogical staff and (3) experts and analysts with relevant thematic focus.

Minimum score for being accepted: 60 points (out of 100)

- Proof of English - minimum B2 level (optional; compulsory only for those who cannot participate personally in the entrance exam)
Those who cannot participate in the entrance exam in person have to provide additionally 2 Letters of Recommendation. They must be sent by the referees themselves to our e-mail or mail contacts.
For being accepted, it is necessary to obtain the formal recognition of prior education in the Czech Republic. See the PhD admission website for further information.
Criteria for evaluation
The maximum possible score for the entrance examination is 100 points. A minimum of 60 points is required to pass the entrance examination.
Criteria for assessing applicants:
- Research project as a basis for the preparation of the dissertation - max. 60 points
- Link to a research project planned or implemented by the department - max. 20 points
- Previous research experience and publications - max. 20 points

Single-subject studies with specialization
In the single-subject studies, the student deepens knowledge in the concrete focus of the degree programme and chooses one specialization. The specialization is stated in the university diploma.
