Secondary School Teacher Training in Physical Education

Follow-up Master's degree in full-time or combined form. The language of instruction is Czech.

The programme can be studied as a single subject or in combination with another programme.

What will you learn?

The aim of the follow-up Master’s study is to prepare qualified teachers of physical education and sports for primary and secondary schools. Mastering the theoretical and practically utilisable knowledge and skills in pedagogical-psychological, medical-biological, and kinanthropological disciplines also enable graduates to prepare, pedagogically correctly implement, and evaluate physical activity and sports programs for all population groups.

Practical training

The concept of pedagogical practices during the Master’s studies is based on the application of the theoretical knowledge and on the close cooperation with the individual didactic disciplines (besides didactics of physical education, also didactics of athletics, swimming, gymnastics, martial arts, sports games, etc.). Three practices in the follow-up Master's double-subject study and four practices for single-subject studies follow two Bachelor’s pedagogical practices and take place at elementary and secondary schools.

“Pedagogical Practice 1” at an elementary school, “Pedagogical Practice 2” at secondary school and “Pedagogical Practice 3” in sports classes of elementary or secondary school in single-subject studies precedes the first-semester subject “Introduction to Pedagogical Practice.” “Pedagogical Practices 1 and 3” are complemented by the subject “Reflection of Practice 1 and 2.”

The aim of the practice is: to orientate in the practical and theoretical field of primary and secondary education; application of pedagogical-didactic knowledge in practice; familiarization with the administrative tasks of a particular primary and secondary school; deepen the skills to analyse and evaluate the physical education process and preparation; realization and reflection of different types of teaching units.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Master’s degree Teacher Training of Physical Education are fully qualified as teachers of physical education for primary and secondary schools and are capable of cultivating a physically active and healthy person. Their readiness is given by their knowledge of kinantropological, biological-medical, and social sciences with a dominant orientation on human motor skills and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. A graduate of the single-subject degree program is able to prepare, pedagogically correctly implement, and evaluate physical activity and sports programs for different population groups.
