Habilitation Public Lecture – Pavol Minárik

Public lecture within the habilitation procedure in the field of Public Economics of applicant Pavol Minárik from Faculty of Social and Economic Studies, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem.

Topic: Religious markets: An application of economic tools to apparently non-market behavior

Economists have a long tradition of invading the territory of other social sciences. The economics of religion is an excellent example. The talk will show how economists from Adam Smith to the present have employed familiar concepts such as supply and demand, market equilibrium, competition and monopoly, and government regulation to study religious behavior. Economic tools help us to explain differences in the religious situation across countries, as well as changes over time, within a unified framework of rational choice, rather than using ad hoc explanations.

The lecture will be in a hybrid format. We encourage you to attend in person (ECON MUNI large meeting room nr. 215, 2nd floor), however it's possible to join online on MS Teams.
