Shape of Water: Water in Music and Back

As one of nature's elements, water is a frequent source of inspiration for works of art. Its motifs can be found in painting, sculpture, film, literature and, of course, music. Naturally, inspiration can be diverse. Furthermore, the theme of water also finds its way into environmentalism and architecture, which thematise the element in many perspectives.

In the case of musical art, it is not only Smetana's Vltava (Moldau) which deals with water in a programmatic sense. Moreover, the theme of tears is an original perspective in dealt sense. Tears can be perceived as a symbol of emotion, pain, loss or joy, and water is a natural element that is associated with the expression of these emotions.

The engaging talk of prof. Miloš Štědroň and doc. Vladimír Maňas about the interconnection of various art forms with the natural element is complemented by visual and musical examples, supporting the informal character of the discussion.

The discussion is a part of the concert of the same name by Ensemble Opera Diversa, which will take place on 4 June 2024 at 7:00 p.m. in the atrium of the Moravian Library.
